Event Organization & Certification
- Co-organizer for the 2009 Calgary City Chase - achieving a
40% attendance increase (to 900 participants), a 9.65/10 participant
survey rating, and a single race record of over $40,000 raised for the
designated charity Right to Play.
- Course setter and major organizer of the 2008 Western Canadian Orienteering Championships held near Sundre, Alberta
- Venue Director for the 2005 World Masters Orienteering Championships held near Edmonton, Alberta with over 1100 competitors
- Event Director for the 2004 Alberta Orienteering Championships, the 2002 Canadian Championships and the 2000 Western Canadian Championships
- Event Coordinator for past 7 years for Urban Orienteering at the Calgary Corporate Challenge and Course Designer for the 2004 and 2005 Theatre Junction's Rat Race
- Course Setter for the Orienteering portion of the 2000 & 2002 Full Moon in June, the 2004 Inner Limits, and the 2005 Eco-Trek Adventure Races
- Key organizer for the 2002 Asian Pacific Orienteering Championships in Alberta and the World Cup of Orienteering held near Toronto in 1992

Sport Administration & Training
Bill is Technical Director of the Alberta Orienteering Association, after serving as the Executive Director of that organization for 3 years. He was on the board of the Foothills Wanderers Orienteering club for 9 years and was President for 5 of those years. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Toronto Orienteering Club.
Bill has been organising corporate team building events based
on orienteering concepts since 1998. He has taught many new Orienteers
and Adventure Racers how to navigate with map and compass at his
popular navigation clinics. In 2009, Bill launched Break Away Corporate
Aventures Ltd, with a renewed focus in offeri
Sport Achievements
Bill is a 4-time Canadian Orienteering Champion in Masters Categories (M35+), winning in all 3 disciplines (short, middle(2), and long).
He was on the winning team of the 2003 Race the Rockies 18 hour adventure race.
Bill is a 4-time regional champion of the City Chase, "The World's Largest Urban Adventure Series". In September 2004, he and fellow Calgarian Tory Meyer outlasted 1800 teams from across Canada to win the inaugural Bell City Chase National Championships in Victoria, BC (televised on Global TV), after first beating 150 teams in the regional race in Calgary.
In 2008, Bill once again represented Team Calgary in St.
John's Newfoundland at the Mitsubishi City Chase National
Championships, which was broadcast on CBC
Television in October, 2008.
Education & Past Working Life
Bill has an Electrical Engineering degree (BASc) from the University of Waterloo (1986) and an MBA from York University (1996). At various times during 1986-2001, he was a software designer, project leader and product marketing manager for several tech companies in Toronto and Calgary.
